BSNL to launch 1GB data STV having validity of 10 days @Rs 68

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), is all set to launch a new data STV (Special Tariff Voucher) for its prepaid mobile subscribers on PAN India basis. The new data STV is priced at Rs 68 offering 1GB free 3G data usage but it has only validity of 10 days.

bsnl_data68

BSNL is launching this data STV for a promotional basis for 60 days starting from 1 April-2015.

This data STV is offering a good volume of free data but beyond this free data limit of 1GB, if prepaid customer continues to use data further without recharging any other data STV, the additional data will be charged at the rate of 2p/10KB. This rate for additional data is cheaper as compared to other mobile operators. It looks a meager rate but if you calculate for 500MB, you have to shell out a big amount of Rs 1000 so it is better to load a data STV as soon as possible.

BSNL, in its few telecom circles, was offering this STV-68 in the month of September-2014 but that time it was offering 1GB with validity of 12 days.

BSNL have other alternatives for 1GB data, it has STV at Rs 139, Rs 155 and Rs 177 offering same amount of 1GB data but with different validity of 19 days, 26 days and 28 days respectively.

Most Indian private mobile operators offers 1GB for Rs 250 with validity of 28 or 30 days but if you load this BSNL’s STV-68 three times in a month, you get 3GB for mere Rs 204 only for full 30 days.

Choice is yours now !

Unlimited data plans have limits in USA : Snoop

$
0
0

us_allcarriersCustomers of AT&T and Verizon in USA may have jealousy with customers on unlimited plan of T-Mobile and Sprint because their carrier don’t offer unlimited data plans and have stopped offering unlimited data plans to new customers way back in 2010 and 2012 respectively.

Existing grandfathered customers of AT&T and Verizon are still enjoying their unlimited data plans but both carriers tethers download speed for heavy users.

To quench new customers, let us see how limited are unlimited plan of T-Mobile and Sprint ?

T-Mobile

On the theme of Un-carrier, T-Mobile is very famous for its unlimited data plans but actually they are not unlimited. Once you hit a certain threshold on its faster, 4G LTE network, T-Mobile slow down the download  speed to 128 Kbps till remaining period of your billing cycle. Customers get back 4G speed when the next billing cycle starts.

T-Mobile also publicize its truly unlimited data plans at $80 but that too has catch, T-Mobile offers unlimited data at 4G speed on its own LTE network only. When T-Mobile customers enters in roaming area, T-Mobile limit the usage at 50MB after which they don’t get data service until they come back again on T-Mobile’s network.

Even in International roaming data plan, T-Mobile slow down the speed at about 128Kbps if their customers spend more than eligible period out of country.

Sprint

Sprint offers only one unlimited data plan for $60 a month but for heavy data users, those who uses more than 5GB a month, Sprint slow down download speed for them. Similar to T-Mobile, Sprint customers also face capping at 100MB when they enters in roaming area of other domestic carriers.

AT&T and Verizon

Both AT&T and Verizon have stopped offering unlimited data plans to new customers long ago but existing customers are enjoying unlimited data plan but that too with some policy guidelines.

AT&T have fixed threshold 5GB for 4G LTE phone users and 3GB for for 3G and non-LTE phone users. After this threshold, the speed reduces. Verizon says that it slow down speed of its top 5% heaviest users in congested area only.

Above restrictions are on cellular data but non of them put any restrictions on Wi-Fi data.

Best options of data plan for Smartphones for UAE tourists

$

UAE is the most favorite destination for tourist, I was just planning to visit this beautiful country. Since my own country’s mobile operator is offering me a costly International roaming plan so I was searching for best plan for my Internet usage need there but couldn’t find a consolidated info then searched in my own way and found following information.uae_data_plan

Etisalat and Du are two mobile service providers in UAE and offers data plans at 4G LTE speed in 1800 MHz frequency band. Prepaid users are popularly known as Wasel users. Since prepaid plan is best option for a short term visiting tourists so I focus on finding the alternatives of prepaid data plans. All plans are figured in AED (United Arab Emirates Dirham) but to guess the how much it will cost you, I am considering the current rate of conversion of one US dollar is equal to approx AED 3.67

Etisalat offers following data plans for mobile

  • AED 5 : Unlimited daily plan with a capping at 50MB, after consuming this much data, the speed reduces.
  • AED 20 : it offers 100MB with a validity of 7 days.
  • AED 29 : It offers 100MB for one month but currently the operator is giving 250MB as a promotional offer.
  • AED 99 : It offers 1GB data and comes with validity of one month.
  • AED 149 : For heavy data users, this plan is useful because it offers 3GB with 30 days validity.
  • AED 249 : It offers 5GB data which may be consumed within 30 days.
  • AED 299 : It offers 10GB data with 30 days validity.
  • AED 499 : It offers 20GB data with 30 days validity.

In all above plans, except daily plan, the additional data are charged at the rate of AED 1 per MB.

Du mobile operator also offers similar plans. Its data plans starts AED 2. Let us see Du’s data plans also.

  • AED 2 : This plan allows access to social networking apps like Facebook, twitter, Whatsapp and Linkedin only. User can use these apps unlimited for whole one day.
  • AED 5 : It offers 25MB for 24 hours.
  • AED 20 : It offers 80MB data and comes with validity of 30 days.
  • AED 50 : It offers 300MB data for 30 days.
  • AED 100 : it offers 1GB data with one month validity.
  • AED 150 : It offers 3GB data with one month validity.
  • AED 200: It offers 5GB data with one month validity.
  • AED 300 : It offers 10GB data with one month validity.
  • AED 500 : It offers 25GB data with one month validity.

Now if we look at all data plans of above two mobile operators, We find that data plans of Etisalat is a little bit cheaper but Du offer higher data usage for its highest data plan. For social media addicted users, Du offers exclusive data plan at the cheapest rate.

Concluding the above info, you have to spend approx $27 for 1GB data usage, very costly as compared to other countries.

Who offers best value of your unused data : Google, Republic Wireless, T-Mobile or AT&T

[USA] T-Mobile and AT&T are allowing their customers to carry-forward their unused data for use in next months but Republic Wireless on Monday came with an innovative plan and announced the imminent launch of a new beta service plan by which customers will get credit for their unused data although the MVNO, the Republic Wireless didn’t disclosed the pricing of this forthcoming plan.

Today Google followed the idea of Republic Wireless and announced its MVNO services with “Project Fi” along with pricing of plan.us_republic-wireless

Google will offer  telecom plans at affordable pricing, the basic plan will cost just $20 for unlimited voice and text plus WiFi tethering and free roaming  in 120 countries.

Google will provide services by using a combination of WiFi and cellular networks for which Google have partnered with Sprint and T-Mobile for the traditional cellular calls and for the WiFi, Google have identified 1 million hotspot. Google further says that Project Fi will automatically switch your smartphone between WiFi and Cellular network based on strength of the network.

Data usage in WiFi network will be free but the customers will be charged for cellular data at the rate of $10 per 1GB hence if a customer opts a plan for 3GB, he/she has to pay $30.

Like Republic Wireless, Google will also credit the value of your unused data and pricing has also announced. The credit for unused data will be given at the same rate of $10/GB.

Suppose a customer opted a 3GB data plan and used only 1.6GB only in whole month then he/she will get the credit for unused data 1.4 GB  ($14).

The pricing of Google Fi looks attractive but it is pretty much in line with pricing of other carriers, look at below table

Google is offering Project Fi through its own Nexus 6 smartphone which has inbuilt ability of Project Fi so right now Nexus 6 owners can avail this phone service of Google.

Looking at the offers of all four carriers, it looks, Google is the best option to value for your unused data until Republic Wireless announce the pricing for unused data.

Getting local mobile phone plan is also easy, even you may order online and can get the prepaid SIM at the airport on your arrival in Thailand.

Five mobile operators are providing mobile services in Thailand and six MVNOs are also selling mobile SIM cards by riding on the network of all these main mobile operators.

Out of five mobile operators, AIS is the largest mobile operator and has the largest coverage network and market share followed by other two mobile operators, DTAC and Truemove-H.

All these major three mobile operators offers prepaid SIM cards with attractive offerings to tourists. Let us have a look the offers.

AIS has three Traveller SIM plans.

  • Traveller SIM for individual which costs 299 Bhat and offers credit of 100 Bhat for voice calls plus 1.5 GB data. Internet usage is unlimited but after crossing 1.5GB data, the speed reduces to 64Kbps.
  • Traveller SIM for Group. Each SIM costs 199 Bhat and offers credit of 15 Bhat for voice calls plus 500MB data. The attractive feature is that members in the Group are allowed to make unlimited free calls
  • Traveller Group Sharing SIM which costs 459 Bhat which offers 3GB of data and unlimited calling among three SIMs. It doesn’t offer any free credit so all calls out of group will be charged.

DTAC has following three tourists SIM Plans.

As we can see, almost all three major operators offers same tourist plan but AIS offers for groups also. The group SIM may be useful if you are going Thailand in group and individual is visiting on separate itineraries.

You may not use voice calls as extensively but you need Internet to be in touch with friends on social media, checking mails and to use Google map for easy touring so unlimited Internet offer is a great help.

Concluding for a tourist: Plan for 299 Bhat ( $8.56) from any of above three mobile operator is the most appealing for stay in Thailand.
